Summer is coming, you can hear it. Fuzzy and rhythmic White Hinterland, brainchild of one Casey Dienel, brings that warmth with a cool breeze. Some of the cuts are pure washy bliss that float along, Dienel’s semi-juvenile voice beautifully cutting through the haze. Other tracks take on a more abstract beat and tempo, keeping you more on edge than sinking you back in your seat. The variety of styles, even flirting with a ballad here or there, shows what happens when Dienel spreads her wings. That said, I wish she had a couple more pop cuts ala the first two tracks, simply because Im a sucker for that tingly feeling and she does it so well. A cool album that will carry you to warmer weather this summer, a few backroads along the way.
